ÖAV Summer Update 2026

The presentation started from current challenges in tour planning. Although its importance is growing, reliable and consistent information and tools are often lacking. Especially in the digital domain, geodata are frequently inconsistent or incomplete, which makes it difficult to realistically assess requirements and risks. DIGIWAY aims to address this by developing and testing innovative products.

The focus was on the exposure map developed within DIGIWAY. It shows the potential consequences of a fall along hiking and mountain trails and thus complements existing information on trail difficulty with an important additional aspect. 
Using examples from the Innsbruck area, it became clear that the mapped results correspond well with real conditions in the terrain. This makes it possible, already during the planning phase, to identify whether only individual sections or longer stretches are affected by increased exposure. 

The exposure map represents a complementary tool and specifically depicts the potential consequences of a fall. The dataset is provided as open data and can be integrated into existing applications via an interface. 
Finally, the question was raised to what extent this approach can contribute to accident prevention and support tour planning in the future, and how it can be taken up and further developed by additional stakeholders.
At the same time, participants were explicitly invited to critically reflect on the approach and to further develop it. Within the scope of the project, not all possible development steps could be implemented. GIS developers in particular are therefore encouraged to build upon this work and develop additional approaches and products.
