On the economic front, the Commission aims to strengthen the Single Market, accelerate permitting procedures, simplify rules in the banking and transport sectors, and diversify supply chains.
In the social sphere, a European Care Deal, new Skills Guarantees, stronger European University Alliances and measures on housing were announced. Particular attention was also given to the territorial dimension. Von der Leyen highlighted the right to stay: the possibility for citizens to build their future in the place where they live should not be a privilege. This principle is closely linked to cohesion policy and the need to reduce regional disparities, ensuring quality opportunities and services across European territories.
Security and resilience represent another key priority, with a new European Security Strategy and new initiatives on strategic capabilities. On climate, planned initiatives include a European Heatwave Plan, a Climate Insurance Alliance and a European Water Initiative.
Finally, on democracy and European values, the President announced a Congress of Europe and a new European framework for emergency response.
