The EU Liaison Office of the Euroregion Tirol-Südtirol/Alto Adige-Trentino in Brussels at the service of the citizens

The EU Liaison Office in Brussels was set up in 1995 to facilitate a better representation of EU-related issues and the economic interests of Tirol, Südtirol/Alto Adige and Trentino and to improve the information flow with decision-making authorities at the European Commission. The liaison office, which was set up as proof of cross-border cooperation by the three provinces Tirol-Südtirol/Alto Adige-Trentino, is situated right in the heart of the European Quarter, just a few minutes' walk from the most important buildings of the EU institutions.

The EU Liaison Office of the Euroregion Tirol-Südtirol/Alto Adige-Trentino in Brussels at the service of the citizensThe joint liaison office in Brussels was created in april 1995 with the aim of a more efficient interest representation at community level for the three regions of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. A coordinated, direct flow of information from the European Institutions to the regions and vice-versa should follow, with a clear expression of the will to enhance crossborder cooperation. The European office is located in the heart of the Europan quarter and just a few minutes' walk to the major EU-Institutions.

The joint liaison office in Brussels

At present, over 170 European liaison offices representing regional and local authorities from all member states - and even some candidate countries! - are located in Brussels sharing the same purpose of better representing their own interests and projects at community level. But in 1995 Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino were the first to create a real common crossborder representation, where officials of regions from two different member states were working closely together on a permanent basis, thus reflecting the idea of European integration.

Clearly the office does not limit itself to operate for the three regional government or related public offices: it offers its services to associations, private companies and citizens from the region having to deal with specific european issues. Obviously in an effort to provide a close service to its citizens, helpdesks are provided in the three main regional cities of Bolzano/Bozen, Innsbruck and Trento where people can find all relevant community legislation and documentation: Info-Points, the Chamber of commerce's  Euro-Info-Centers, Centro di documentazione europeo etc.
